Last week, my doctor called me in, spur of the moment, to have labs done on Friday. Tuesday morning I get a call….
Me: oh oh
NP: why do you say that?
Me: because if everything were okay, I’d be getting a postcard in the mail
NP: you’ve been through this before….
Yeah…blood labs were horrible so I went into the doctor yesterday. I’ve lost 19 pounds total since I was diagnosed….
Me: yeah!!! That’s good right?
Dr: have you been eating right?
Me: ummmm no….
Dr: have you been exercising regularly?
Me: ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh noooooooooooooooooo.
Dr: sooooooooooo tell me what’s good about it….
Me: heeeeeeeeeellllllllloooo I lost 19 pounds…(in that tone that sounds like I’m saying ‘c’mon…I’m cute aint I????)
Dr: stare stare stare and stare some more.
Miss-management of a disease can cause loss of weight which is not good. Okay whatever. I still think it’s a good thing.
All joking aside, a coworker came up to me this morning and we were chitchatting about my addiction to Lays BBQue potatoes chips. I was telling her that I stocked up on them and bought them in bulk when they were on sale when she reached over and touched my hand. She looked me in the eyes and said that I can do this. That I was strong. She remembered when my ex had called me, at work, and asked for a divorce. She remembered me crying in my supervisor’s office (she politely kept out the fact that I was on the floor). She said that over the years I had handled my divorce with dignity and strength that she respected and if I can conquer that, I could conquer diabetes…
The whole conversation lasted maybe 6 minutes but boy…I wont to replay it in my mind over and over again. I am strong. I have dignity. And I can do anything. I tell myself that, most times as a question more so than an affirmation of anything but to have someone else say it…it means a lot. People please be aware of your interactions with others…you never know the impact you have on them.

Youth is a marvelous period of life. What a pity so many don't know what to do with it ~ Unknown
I very seldom listen to the radio in my car (mainly because I listen to it all day at work and there’s only so many times you can hear the same song before you start beating your head up against the cubicle wall…WHAT IS UP WITH THAT??? I understand the term ‘heavy rotation’ but this is ridiculous) but I had taken all my CD’s out of my car so when I picked Jalil up from practice last night he was suffering through the radio for something to listen to…imagine my amazement when he stopped on a song and started doing some sort of shimmy in the seat and singing along….it was Britney Spears ‘Womanizer’…he loves the chorus and I’m amazed that he knows the words and every sound she makes during it but when he sang the word ‘lollipop’, you know the line… he sat completely still and then shimmied his shoulders…wow.

Today is Ash Wednesday. I have an Ash Wednesday story…wanna hear??? Doesn’t matter, as long as your reading this you have no choice….when I first started working here I was walking around my job and came across a coworker. She had what looked like a huge smudge of mascara on her forehead and me being the person that I am…I’m going to tell you ‘hey…u got something on your face!!!’ So as she is talking to me I’m like I gotta tell her…’ so in the middle of our work conversation I say ‘you have got something on your face’ and without any further ado…I reach to wipe it off…she’s rearing back saying ‘no’…I’m grabbing her saying ‘yeah you do…I’ll get it’…its almost a lil tussle going on until she finally says, LOUDLY, ‘STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’. Hmmm this wasn’t the reaction that I expected so I dropped my hands and looked at her and she began to explain that it was Ash Wednesday and the significance of it….every year, for the past 15 years, she comes to me and says ‘hey!! Don’t forget its Ash Wednesday….’ Yeah.. I am usually the butt of serious jokes in my office.

Why is it that men hate it when you tell them they are being a statistic? I mean yeah it can be bad to be generalized...but a male friend of mine just got divorced. He is in a book club and one of the girls in the club, he is interested in. I say girl because...well she is a girl. 24 years old to his 36. He wants to ask her out and I responded 'LOL...if you do you are SO a statistic!!!' All he said was 'EXPLAIN, please' I said that it was typical for divorced men to start dating soon after the divorce, and it was usually a younger woman. Terms like 'typical' and 'usual' mainly refer to a statistic so I called him a statistic to which...he wasnt liking to much.

This is a layout I did for Okoye's first dance...I've got to find a better place to take pictures at...usually my dinning and/or my living room has the most natural light...the BEST light but it kept putting a glare on it. ummm duh...I just realized I need to try it without the page protector...I can be so simple sometimes....

When I went to the hospital last night, my niece Shanel wanted to go so Okoye took care of AvaRae. This would have been the first time he was ALONE with her. He’s walked around with her, fed her…kept her occupied during her grandmothers funeral…all that. But this was the first he couldn’t hand her off when she was upset or being a brat. I’m tellin’ you…best kind of birth control ever made.

My dad is to have a CTscan this morning…normal procedure but he is allergic to the dye that they use. Not skin itchy allergic reaction…we are talking face swelling constricting oxygen allergic. Since they really need to do it they began pumping him with steroids and Benadryl last night. None of us like it that they are doing it but we understand it has to be done. After its done he’s got to be under observation and he’s under the assumption that he will be able to go home a few hours after. I beg to differ but I’m tired of fighting with him. I think he gets a kick out of it and most times…I do it to keep his spirits up. Yes, we have a strange relationship and yes I blame him for all my problems in my romantic relationships. And yes…I’m being sarcastic.
*
Today a lady told me ‘…you’re a peach!’. Don’t know if she meant it as a compliment but based on her tone…I liked it. It made me feel girly and dainty.
*
CTscan went well…waiting on results and observing him for awhile...hopefully we will know something. Anything.

I have been running around lately like a chicken with its head cut off.
*I had already written like 2 paragraphs of how when I lived with my grandparents, we lived next to a small chicken farm and I went into depth explaining how The Man would snap the chickens necks but I felt that might be a little too out there....maybe another day*
*My dad is still in the hospital. Last night he was in better spirits but today, he's grouchy again. I'm going to go sit with him while Jalil is in practice. Still no word what is going on with him...they ran some blood labs on him and they keep bandying around the words 'inflammation in the blood'. Doesn't matter who asks you pretty much get 'we'll know more tomorrow'. His color was better last night...he's about my complexion but the other night his face was very red and darker shades of brown around the edges.
*Walgreens has Revlon lipstick on sale...buy one get one free. I am a lipstick whore. Doesnt matter if I have a 105 degree temp...I will have my lipstick on. Well really lipstick, chapstick and lipgloss...anything that goes on the lips...I will buy it. But I really love it when Revlon has sales. I stock up big time.
*The other morning when I left for work, my flock of birds are up in the air. Yes I always feel like flocks of birds are signs from God....When I see them I feel peaceful and happy. I rememer being young laying in the yard, looking up in the sky and watching the birds float back and forth. Of course my brother would tell me that one was going to poop on me but it wouldnt take my joy. When I see flocks...I just feel good again. I even smile for no reason. I feel like its His way of saying 'quit pushing so hard...rest easy'. Of course that means that He does it JUST for me...yeah...thats it.
*While processing paperwork I came across the city 'El Segundo'...had me rockin' in my seat...*sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhh* memories.
