While we teach our children all about life....our children teach us what life is all about ~Angela Schwindt

*and yes...those are my big teenage boys sprinkled here and there IN THE KIDDIE PLAYGROUND AREA'S.....Lord I love them...

giggling...it does a soul good....

if you ever find yourself in a bad mood...spend time with children...they can show you how to live....

how to enjoy life...little moments, big moments....doesnt matter...

to laugh with total abandon...not worrying about how you look or what anyone thinks of you

to just...enjoy...and just be

to run head long into life and not be scared of what is on the other side...

*Ms AvaRae's birthday is tomorrow but her birthday party was on Sunday. Happy birthday sweetie...

This is my great niece Annika...believe it or not she is 6 months old...she is constantly watching me! I think she's wondering....... 'WHAT is that THING connected to her face all the time?!'

And this is my dad and Ms Mia...Ava Rae's little sister, another great niece....sooooooo alert and focused! I warn my niece about that with that old wives tale...you know...if a baby seems well advanced for their age that means they are getting out of the way for next baby.....she always gives me alook when I say that...

Okay...this is for the grandparents out there....what is UP with you??? You change when you have grand kids! I swear you do! Case in point...this is my dad....and he's blowing bubbles....I dont remember him EVAH blowing bubbles with me! He showed me how to fix a flat tire but nevah evah blowing bubbles....this was after 'Mylie, my niece, got frustrated with her bubbles being 'broke' and my dad preceded to show her how to 'fix it' ....

My niece 'Mylie upset because her bubbles weren't workin' right....

she just kept trying and trying and finally frustration set in....

*It is Love Thursday over there at Chookooloonks and so I am posting these photos here….

Now these are not the best photo by any means but I love them. I smile every time they come up on my screen saver because there is love in these two blurry out of focus shots…

It was taken at a wedding last year and in the photo is my mom in the middle of my two sons and they are doing the Electric Slide (or the Bus Stop depending on who you are or where you are from). Can you see their smiles? It took a minute for my two to catch onto the steps but once they did they were having a blast…they laughed….cracked jokes on each other….even got a little booty wiggle here and there.....

Can you see the stiffness in Jalil, my youngest son on the left? He does not dance. Not in public in any case. He pretty much does not like crowds or loud noise but for this, he had a blast albeit..stiffly, LOL. Can you see the ease and confidence of my oldest son on the right? Line dance’s are not his thing but boy….he was having all blast. Two boys , who for most occasions will not dance in public, got up in a room of strangers and DID dance all because their Nana asked them too….

All of this was brought on by the love they all share between them and I am so very blessed because of it…

A Wii night......

Jalil and Okoye boxing....

I realllllllllllllllllly want to get a Wii...this is
not a game system....this is torture carefully disguised as a
game! I did it and I felt muscles that hadn't been used
in a long time!

AND....gotta have the cuteness factor for the night....
my great niece, Ms Mia laughing or having a
gas bubble....I take laughing....

She is AMAZINGLY alert....

Of course, babies are not happy all the time....I felt
a need to document THAT personality trait
to.....

GOOSEBUMPS…why does the song Butterfly Kisses (Bob Carlisle) still gives me goosebumps???? Especially the one with all the voice overs…Good Lord, I feel the tears coming

HUNG-OVER…have you ever felt so tired you feel like you have serious hangover??? Man… Okoye’s girlfriend had a party for her 16th birthday and my boys went for that. Then Jalil had a bbq for his birthday so I feel like I am in hormone overload from all the teenagers that I was around this weekend. All the high pitched giggling from the teenage girls trying to get the attention of the boys, all the boys trying to be manily men for the teenage girls, the food, the music…urgh…this is WORSE than a hangover

Lacey's Birthday Party....filled with that stringy crap that you squirt out of a can...

that would be Okoye in the middle of the circle.....getting ready to dance.......or really dancing...that boy loves to dance

*sigh*....Mama.....she is Beyonce and my dad is Jay Z....and you wonder where I get my craziness....

my baby's birthday cake...the cake that when i went to get it...they couldnt find it...the one that we had to wait for about 45 minutes for them to find and when they did, they only charged us for a quarter sheet cake instead of half a sheet cake.

CREEPS…I can admit that I am a paranoid ninny at times but do you ever get freaked out when you get a FRIEND request on FACEBOOK from a complete stranger? None of her ‘NETWORKING’ groups come even close to me. The only thing I can think of is a friend posted one of my photo’s on her wall and maybe its from that but I gotta say…it’s freaking me out

DELICIOUS…a coworker made breakfast quiche for the office and it was sooooooo good! Nothing like spinach and eggs to start a day

SOUNDTRACK…does anyone remember the show Ally McBeal? It was the show about about the unisex rest-room......well, okay that was not what it was all about but that was one of the things I remember most about the show. The other thing I remember was the episode about having a soundtrack for your life. Everyone should have one. Well, lately what wax I imagine to be rotating as I work my way through life is ‘I Gotta Feeling’ by the Black Eyed Peas…. Now THAT song makes me finger snapping head bobbing happy.

Ava got to go home on Saturday. Friday was probably the worst day. I've never known a doctor to give an IV in the head. My niece called me crying and in the middle of her trying to tell me what was going on she said 'here comes Nana'. My mother. My mother got on the phone and SHE was crying. She said 'Jak, I couldnt do it'. Now for my mother to run out of the room...I just could NOT be there. I think that was one of my weakest moments in my life. I'm the one who buckles down and 'takes the bullet' for myself and everyone else. But the thought of my great niece with an IV needle....in her scalp...I just could not do it.

She does a lot of sleeping now which before she hardly slept at all. 3 to 4 hours a night, TOPS. Since she's been home I'd say in the past 48some-odd hours she's only been awake 3-4 hours. Yesterday we went out there and she woke up long enough to rock for Jalil to pick her up (She loves her Jalil) but once he picked her up, got her to laugh a couple times, her head was nodding back and forth. She still doesnt have to much of an appetitte. Wont take a bottle of milk, but juices she will drink. Not to much food. But she is having dirty diapers. All day Friday she had one dirty diaper.

Whew...I dont know. All this pain and drama for a little baby....I think I might take teenage problems anyday....

New Year's Eve...some shots that made me...sad. It ended my party early....

Jessiah, Angela, Brylie and Syncere.....Angela is my niece...the younger ones are my great niece's and nephews.....Jessiah and Brylie are sister and brother and this is the first time I've seen them in about 9 months even though we all live within 20 minutes of each other. Jessiah is very quiet and withdrawn. Brylie is loud and loves attention. Oh , Jessiah and Brylie are Angela's niece and nephew....

Jessiah again. When he walked in he grabbed my hand and I tell you what we never let go of each other for the rest of the night. Here he's laying down because he didnt feel good. The toy is his and the leaf he found in my living room and he asked if he could have it. When I told him he could he said that it needed to go to sleep on the pillow with him.

Jessiah again. He has the cutest cowlick!! Red curls and a cowlick...But really, I know women who would KILL for those eyelashes....

And these are pictures that made me very happy. Black and white pictures always do.....
Jalil is a Packer fan all the way............

Here he's explaining to me how hard it is to kick a football....like I"m going to let him play football next year.....

As you can see...he kicked the ball almost through the goal....I was shocked my damn self....can you see the ball on the left side of the pole, near the top of it?

I really like this shot of Jalil and his dad...

*WTF....some idiot sent me an invitation to a website called The Booty Call...... I cant...I cant get my words together. Maybe that's better because right now I want to cuss him dafuq out.....

*Sometimes I wish I could just beat my kids. Really and truly beat them. Starve them. Give them only one pair of jeans, a shirt, underwear, I pair of socks, and tennis shoes to wear. Everyday. Day in and day out. The same shit. Just so that they could actually see how damn good they have it. They have NO clue. That is a resolution for this year. To give my children’s reality back to them. They are the most overpriviledged underpriviliged kids I know. They feel like their life is sooooooooooooooo freakin' bad yet they each have $300 TOTAL cash, clothes galore, new games, they got their xbox's and xbox 360's back, dvd players back...I know I'm forgetting something yet they want to argue with me about being bored driving in the freaking car!!! WTF??? Are they insane?! I was nearly in tears at how crazy it is.

* My car breaking down on Christmas Day....is NOT a good sign. Driving on the highway my power steering went out, then a few hundred feet later...my battery light came on...and then another few feet my thermostat went all the way to the other side, in the red. My first thought was the serpintine belt. The boys called Kerry, who came to get us, and I called Lawrence and he said he agreed ( Have I said how much I love him?) that it sounded like the serpintine belt and it should be okay to drive back to the house. So we parked and waited for Kerry and then he followed me home. Well today my dad worked on it and it wasnt the belt but a pulley but it is fixed for $20 instead of the $100 for the belt and the $3000 for labor. I exaggerate but not by much....

*Dare I jinx it and say how much I love having 70 degree weather THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS?!!!! YEAAAAAAAAAAAH BABY....

* I am officially 21! Yeah....my birthday was Saturday and truth be told, I dont really mind getting older. Birthday's dont phase me too much. I just tend to ignore them. Well, I ignore them on the outside. I like to consider my birthday My New Year and that is when I start thinking about what I want to do differently in regards to ME. I'm inspired to get back on my organization bandwagon, getting back on my strict diet, and cutting clutter out of my life, that includes people. I dislike classifying human's as clutter but just because its my clutter doesnt mean it has to be someone else's clutter. Hell, I'm probably someone else's clutter. And I'm okay with that.

* I leave you with....PICTURES OF COURSE! LOL....
Jalil isn't even excited about getting his 360 back.....LOL

Ava Rae's first Christmas....you cant tell it by this shot but the whole dining room table is covered COVERED with her Christmas presents....but what is she most interested in???? Yes, the bow's and the wrapping paper.....

My mother....*sigh*....I cant get that woman to just stand and take a picture......that's my daddy....

LOL...one day, she will hate me for this! But 'Mylie has her finger up her nose 90 freaking percent of the time! oh yeah....that's my brother......

siggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggh*** yes the dog got a present.....wasntme....

Okoye and his model pose.... I'll be so glad when he gets his hair cut........his cap is covering the bush that is growing on his head. This just reminds me how much I like him with no hair......

A few of Lincoln Homecoming Parade Pix's...

Friday, October 10, 2008

Last weekend, my mom called and said that they were going to go to Kansas City to visit one of my Uncle’s. She said that they had gotten word that he wasn’t doing very well and that m y dad needed to come up there. He is my dad’s youngest sibling, youngest brother. Since he is only 10 years older than me, we grew up together. I was torn because it was Okoye’s first semi formal dance and (I hated to tell him no) going to see Unclie Chris. ‘Uncle Chrissie’s fine…..I’ll get up there soon…..’ that’s pretty much what I told myself.

I didn’t hear from my mom and dad Saturday night so I called them early on Sunday. My dad answered and was very vague. didn’t want to talk about his brother but he sure wanted to talk about how the grass was growing…unhuh….I know my dad. My dad is your stereotypical man. Feelings and emotions are best expressed through denial and yard work or some other type of labor. I chitchatted with him a minute longer and then I asked for my mom. Soon as she got on the phone, I asked her what was up.

My uncle has full blown AIDS. He’s lived with HIV for years. Hepatitis C for as long as I can remember AND he’s diabetic. When he found out about Hepatitis, I was still living at home and he wanted to come visit so Moms made sure I knew and I could act accordingly. I stayed druing the whole visit and Uncle Chrissie and I talked a lot.

He told me about the life he had lived. The life my father and all of them had lived. It hadn’t been easy and they made a lot of choices, most time bad choices, in order to survive. Growing up, I kinda knew most of this. I mean, I was taught at an early age that if someone asked if I was such and such’s niece or daughter, I better ask ’why you want to know’ before saying yes. So most of it was not knew to me but I could sense HE felt a need to tell his tale.
Fast forward to two years ago. Easter. He came to visit. My mind, even NOW just kind of shudders at the change in him. Very slight. Looked like a wind could knock him down. Tired. Worn out. It was hard to believe that he was only 10 years older than me. He looked like he was 80 instead of 45.But still , when it came time for pictures he would stand beside me and hug my shoulders sooooooooooo tight. Amazingly tight. At that visit, he told me a lot more. About his choices. And about talking to my son’s. and being real with them and their lives ahead of them.

I went to go see Uncle Chris today. On the way my mom said ‘I want you to remember this is not the uncle Chrissie you remember.’ I pooh-poohed her off. You know, I’m educated. Well read. I know what the dangers are and how the body shuts down…but nothing…NOTHING can prepare you for this.

I walked down the hall of the nursing home and I could hear some one moaning…very loud. So much pain. It was almost…the sound of an animal. As we got closer to my uncles room, the moans got louder and louder and when we turned into the room there my Uncle was. The have a ‘mattress’ that moves the body slightly, every now and again so that bed sores and such don’t set in. They were placing him on that and just the movement they were doing to his body for this soft inflateable almost gelly like mattress….caused him tremendous pain. And he was moaning. Once they got him settled into a position, he was still convulsing with pain. He had curled into a ball, with a pillow between his legs and his arm resting on the pillow as well. His gaze was fixed and his mouth struggled with the air he was trying to take in. I paused for a second and then marched right up to the bed like a soldier bent on finishing my tour of duty or something.

I walked up to him, grabbed his fingers and leaned down. I told him it was me and he gripped my hand tight and wouldn’t let go. The hospice nurse came in at that time and talked to us and the entire time, with his gaze fixed, not blinking I rubbed his hand. When I guess he couldn’t hold anymore, he let my hand go and I went and stood by the window and talked to the nurse’s or his case worker on a one on one basis.

After about an hour we prepared to leave and I was letting everyone get their hugs in before me. Finally I strolled over and grabbed his hand and I leaned over and said ‘uncle Chrissie….its Jak….I’m heading out’. he let out a loud painfull moan and grabbed my hand so tight. I told him to calm down and to relax but his whole body had tightened up and that in itself was causing him so much pain. The nurse came in on the other side and stroked his head and my mom came over behind me and stroked the other side of his head and promised him we would be back. He still clung onto me but he’s body was still stressed. Finally I said ‘uncle Chissie, I will be back’. his body went limp but he still held onto my hand. We sat like that for 20 minutes. Him with his fixed stare and me with tears falling.

I hate getting older simply because it seems like the older I get the more death is around me. Pain seems to always be lurking around every damn corner. I watched my dad the rest of the day and his shoulders had dropped quite a bit and I found myself feeling very protective of him. To the point of being very disrespectful of his brothers, and their wives. I grew up in a very respect orientated home. didn’t matter if my family member was strung out on drugs, living in a box or didn’t have a dime to his name… I still betta show them respect. So for me to say ‘you have forgotten that my father bought you a damn car and NEVER asked you to pay him one damn dime’ or ‘did he NOT just make your freakin’ mortgage payment last month??? Do NOT point any fingers at what he does or does NOT do.‘ welllllllllllllll…lets just say that I might not be sitting at the grown ups table at Thanksgiving. But everyone is expecting him to take care of everything. Yes, he is the oldest and that has been his job for YEARS. But its so hard to take care of everything all the time. It’s exhausting. It zapps your strength. And he’s not the healthiest man. This is second sibling in 7 month’s. The second time that everyone is looking to him to make sure everything is done and taken care of. But it worries me about who will be there and who will take care of him when he needs it..

My sister 'Netta, me and Okoye...please excuse the sequined top...I was NOT trying out for a career as a Solid Gold Dancer...it was 98 degrees in the shade and I wore a black shirt, of all things....so I stopped and grabbed this lovely little number. Dont ask me what devilish thoughts my sister was having....
My niece's Angela and 'Mylie....

My cousin Michael who is a doctor/photography...yeah, he had to show me out with all his fancy equipment but everyone liked my pictures better.... >-P Nah nah nah nah....

My cousin Lionel...who had a snotty azz cold and preceeded to wipe his snot on his hands and THEN want to give me a high five with said hands...

Evette (Evie) and 'Mylie get to know each other using sticks...I love it when girlie girls play with 'boy' things! My job is done in this world when I introduce them to the other side....

My sis and her son Quinton or Quinten (yeah, I'm a bad aunt I can not for the life of me remember how she spelled (spellt???) his name) so we will just call him Q from now on.....

Ava Rae....summed it up pretty good here...after 2 hot azz days, people wanting to hug and kiss you in the middle of those hot days and never having enough to drink...I wish I could have fallen asleep and let someone push me around in a soft cushing carriage too...

Family reunions....the stuff that stories that get passed down from generation to generation are made of....
